What uniform are you wearing?

Posted by chris.dauphin

From the second you come in contact with someone in person or on the internet, that person is making mental notes about you and assigning you to a team based on the uniform you are wearing.

That uniform is your brand. It is your promise to your followers.

Just like a firefighter’s uniform represents bravery, courage, and strength, your uniform represents a specific expectation about you.

Think about your own experiences. When you come across a person who constantly self-promotes and never seems to listen, you instantly know what that uniform looks like. When you run into someone outspoken about politics, you immediately place them in a particular category because you know what to expect from people in that uniform.

The same is true when someone offers valuable content relevant to your interests; you know how that uniform looks.

And remember, your followers are making these decisions about you regardless of whether or not the uniform you are wearing is intentional! Are you being deliberate with your choice of uniform?

If you really want to build a solid, trusted brand, here’s where you start. Now that you know people want to figure you out, make it easy on them and yourself. Take the time to intentionally put on the uniform that best represents you, and then keep that promise. So, what uniform are you wearing?

That’s all for today. Good luck out there!
