Content Creation

10 ways to create a ton of content from your blog

Posted by chris.dauphin

Are you letting your content off the hook? You’ve worked hard developing great content; you owe it to yourself to show it off.

If you pour your heart and soul into your content, don’t be afraid to cannibalize your content into more content. What do I mean by cannibalizing? It is simple, take the content you created for your blog and generate a bunch of content from the original content. This is also a great way to supercharge marketing efforts for your blog.

Here are my 10 ways to create a ton of content from each of your blog posts:

1. Launch your blog across all your social media platforms with a compelling statement or thought-provoking question.

This may seem an obvious first step, but I know some bloggers who hold Kevin Costner’s Field of Dreams belief to write it and they will come. Unfortunately, they probably won’t come, so you have to promote it.

Now would also be a good time to make sure you have a twitter account and know how to grow your twitter following the right way.

I’d also suggest having accounts on Instagram, Facebook (pages work best), Pinterest, Linked In, and YouTube at the absolute minimum.

2. Post questions on twitter about the topic that is answered in your blog and provide the link to your blog.

This is simple. Just think of questions you answered in your blog and set those on a schedule to post on Twitter for a few weeks. Always make sure you also include a link to your blog. (TIP: If you share with Twitter directly from your WordPress page, the picture which shows up for your followers is hyperlinked to your blog. This makes it easier for your followers to find your blog.)

3. Create memes of the best quotes from your blog and share those across your social media platforms. (Always include the link to your blog in the post).

Again, simple. Just find a few quotable quotes from your post and create memes from them. If your graphic design skills are lacking, you can use a simple free program like Canva to do this. (Although I do believe if you take the time to learn a skill, you will raise your value)

As you can see, once you’ve created the content in your blog post, creating cannibalized content becomes relatively simple.

4. Create a summary video of your blog content – this works especially well if your content is a listicle. If you can keep the video under 60 seconds, it will translate well to Instagram and elsewhere.

A summary video is just a text over video, slideshow-style video that explains the gist of your blog post. It can tell the whole story or act as a teaser, that is up to you. You want this to be attention-grabbing, so give some thought to what each slide will say.

5. Record and publish a podcast version of your blog (a blogcast?), which runs concurrently with your blog, for those who wish to listen to your content (you can cross-promote your blog and your podcast).

All you have to do here, at a minimum, is record yourself reading your blog verbatim. If you want to, you can add commentary, but only if you are comfortable doing so.

You can even use your cellphone’s voice recorder app for this if you do not have the equipment.

Be sure to follow my instructions on how to publish your podcast so that your content shows up everywhere.

6. Create a video version of your audio podcast, which can be a static graphic with the audio of your podcast playing underneath.

Take the audio from the podcast version you just created and add it to a still image. Then upload to YouTube and Facebook. And, of course, start also promoting this across all your social platforms.

7. Edit short clips of the best parts of your podcast video and share those as separate videos across your social media platforms., these work well if the words are shown at the bottom, and always link back to the full video.

Take the best, most informative parts of your podcast and create short clips to share. If you have the skill and the software, add the transcription timed with the audio on the screen.

The number of clips you will have will vary depending on the content of your blog.

8. Tie in topics you’ve covered in other blog posts and include links back to those posts within your blog.

This step will help cross-promote other posts within your blog that your followers might have missed, and it looks good to google.

9. Post all of your best-performing blog content on linked-in.

There are several ways to approach this. You can write a summary and post that to linked in with an additional link back to your blog, or you can just post the entire blog there. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, so just do what you feel comfortable doing. The goal is promoting you and your blog, so either way will work.

10. After some time passes, film a video intro for the blog or blogcast and reshare.

I only recommend this if you’ve released other content since you last aired your blogcast. But it is a great way to reintroduce a timely and valuable blog post, especially to new followers.

If you follow these 10 steps, you will be creating tons of content from each blog you write. And remember, this won’t result in just 10 pieces of content; it has the potential to result in 50 or more pieces of content!

If you are bringing value to those you wish to serve and promoting your blog using these 10 easy steps, your blog will take off in no time.

Ok, that’s all for today. Good luck out there!
