I was watching HBO’s “Belichick and Saban: The Art of Coaching” this week, and something Nick Saban said stuck with me.
Saban was talking about how he challenges Alabama players’ work ethic and mindset on the field.
“It’s a mindset when we’re running 10 yards, do you run eight or do you run 10? When we’re running 20, do you run 19 or 20… It’s a mindset, it’s a habit that you create. It’s not really about what you want, it’s about what you’re willing to do to get it.”
Even in the Olympics, you can see runners let off the gas with a few yards to go. I’ve also seen runners lose because they didn’t run through the finish line. It’s something to think about, are we letting off the gas too early?
There are some videos on YouTube about people who lost a game or race because they celebrated too early. Here’s one:
I think this highlights exactly why it is essential to write down tangible metrics for your goals, which you can “run through,” so you don’t quit too early.
But it was the last part of Saban’s quote that resonated with me and got me thinking. Am I willing to do what it takes to get what I want? Are you?

Ok, that’s all for today. Good luck out there!
