Take a minute right now and ask yourself, “what is my brand conveying about me?”
When experts talk about branding, sometimes the conversation is vague. But, branding is relatively simple; everything about you is your brand.
Personal branding is not mystical; it is factual. It is simple. It is you.
Your brand is your profile picture, your bio, and the colors you use on your website. It is your logo, your business cards, the book you wrote, and the art you created. Your brand is your marketing materials, the content you share, the messages you send, the pictures you post, the language you use, the way you interact with your followers, the trust you build, the friends you keep, the books you read, the food you eat, your hobbies, and on and on.
So why is personal branding important? We are all in the business of marketing ourselves. We present our brand to employers, to customers, to romantic interests, to our peers, our brand is always on display all day every single day. And regardless if you are mindful of your brand or not, you have a brand nonetheless.
The good news is, you can shape your brand.
For example, what if you started to wear a suit to all of your meetings? Or what if you started offering your close friends free services? Or what if you started to volunteer at the retirement home in your area? Or what if you get into wearing goth makeup and wearing all black all the time? It is simple to change your personal brand.
Consider this, is your brand in alignment with your goals?
It is easy to overlook the impact of personal branding, but one cannot overstate the importance of aligning your brand with your goals.
Trust is a key factor in building a following, a customer base, and if your brand doesn’t align with what you are selling, you are creating unnecessary friction for yourself.
The bottom line, your brand should align and match with the world view of the people you are trying to reach. Does it?
That’s all for today. Good luck out there!
