Everyday, all throughout your day, online and IRL you are faced with countless opportunities to talk or listen. Since you can’t simultaneously talk and listen, you have to choose.
Everyone is talking. All the time. Everyday. Everywhere. Vying, hoping for attention. But few are listening.
Here’s the most important tip I can offer.
Learning about the needs and problems of the people you wish to help or serve (i.e., listening) is the opportunity cost when you choose to always talk.
Listening is how you learn to empathize. And empathy is the secret weapon of a successful brand.
When you learn to listen, you discover exactly how to bring value to those you wish to serve by learning what they care about, need, and want. By learning about what causes them pain and friction, you are able to develop a clear picture of how to be empathic to their needs.
Leading with empathy is a proven way to grow a brand, and the best way to grow loyal brand ambassadors.
This is why I say the best way to be heard is to listen.
